SPIRITS Museum cares for an expanding collection of artifacts and recreations currently on view at Virginia Distillery in Lovingston, located between Charlottesville and Lynchburg. The collection materials help tell the story of colonial era distillation, illustrating how this technology was used for science, medicine, perfume, and consumption, as well as its broader cultural impacts. Before the current display at Virginia Distillery, the collection was on view in Williamsburg at Eight Shires Coloniale Distillery.

To visit the collection, book a tour with Virginia Distillery, or simply walk into the tasting room during business hours and let the staff know you want to see the SPIRITS Museum collection.

SPIRITS MUSEM + VIRGINIA DISTILLERY CO.

The partnership between Virginia Distillery Co. and SPIRITS Museum brings together two organizations united by a deep respect for tradition, craftsmanship, and the evolving story of American spirits. Virginia Distillery Co.’s dedication to producing exceptional single malt whiskey—rooted in meticulous, grain-to-glass practices—echoes the legacy of immigrant distillers whose ingenuity and experimentation shaped early Virginian, and by extension American, whiskey making. That same spirit of exploration underpins the SPIRITS Museum’s mission to preserve and interpret the history of distillation, fermentation, and early American innovation. Together, they highlight how the pursuit of quality today is inseparable from the diverse cultural traditions and inventive energy that have defined both Virginia and America’s spirits heritage for hundreds of years.

About Virginia Distillery Co.

“The late Dr. George G. Moore held a deep passion for single malt whisky and his adopted home in Virginia. A native Irishman, George came to the U.S. in the 1970s to seek new opportunities. In 2011, after many years of building successful businesses in both the U.S. and Ireland, George finally had the chance to combine his two passions when he started Virginia Distillery Company.

Today, George’s wife, Angela Moore, and their son, Gareth Moore, along with his wife, Maggie Moore, have taken the helm to continue building George’s dream. “Have the courage of your convictions” is a saying George often repeated to friends and family. His credo became our core principle and the name of our newest American Single Malt whisky, Courage & Conviction.”
